Members of the Barking and Dagenham Young People’s development group spread the word about Future Youth Zone to hundreds of people at the borough’s annual Youth Parade.

The group joined in the walk from Barking Park to Abbey Green where they set up a stall.

There was plenty of interest in the Youth Zone with many local people popping over and asking the young people questions about what will be on offer. The group also mingled with residents in what was an action-packed day with plenty of free activities on offer, organised by Barking and Dagenham Council.

Group member Bola Busari said: “We have been part of the Youth Parade so we can advertise OnSide and our Youth Zone.

“It was great to speak to people and tell them all about it.”

Among those coming to see the young people were Council Leader Darren Rodwell and Chief Executive Chris Naylor.

The Young People’s Development Group has been meeting throughout the year to discuss and shape how Future Youth Zone will look and what it will offer when it opens in 2018.

Member Georgia Flatman said: “Before going to the Young People’s Development group I was shy and now I am confident.

“This has given me many opportunities and for other people in the community too.”
