Head of Youth Work

A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced manager to lead on the youth work provision and development of a challenging programme of activities at London’s first OnSide Youth Zone – Future! This is a brand-new charity within a state-of-the-art building offering a wide range of exciting activities and targeted services for young people from all across the borough.

Future Youth Zone is a state-of-the-art £6.5m facility currently under construction in Barking and Dagenham and is due to open in Spring 2019. Attracting young people from across the borough and beyond through its fantastic facilities, the Youth Zone is a registered charity and will provide positive activities and practical support, with the aim of enabling young people to make constructive use of their leisure time and raise their aspirations. This is a brand-new role offering the opportunity to be involved in shaping the future of the Youth Zone.

The Role

The Head of Youth Work will work closely with the Chief Executive and will proactively recruit and then lead a team of staff and volunteers in delivering a vibrant, open-access, 21st Century Youth Zone for the young people of Barking and Dagenham, and also have responsibility for targeted projects to provide more focussed support.  The post holder will be required to ensure the Youth Zone provides a safe, inclusive and positive environment, will be the Safeguarding Lead and will take a lead role in evaluating and improving the offer to young people, as well as driving excellence across the board.

The Person

You will have:

  • Substantial experience of youth work and successfully led a team to deliver modern youth work services
  • Experience of programming a diverse range of activities for young people
  • A strong desire and passion to work with, support and develop young people; and an astute awareness of issues facing localyoung people
  • The ability to effectively engage young people and adults alike, with excellent communication and organisational skills
  • A considered and decisive approach to management
  • Practical and varied experience of safeguarding, with the ability to lead on this
  • The ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends

Business Operations Manager

A unique opportunity for an experienced Business Operations Manager to establish and run the office and administrative function and be the secretariat for the Board of Trustees for Barking and Dagenham Youth Zone, a new charity with a state-of-the-art building offering a wide range of activities and targeted services for young people.

Future Youth Zone is a state-of-the-art £6.5m facility currently under construction in Barking and Dagenham and is due to open in Spring 2019. Attracting young people from across the borough and beyond through its fantastic facilities, the Youth Zone is a registered charity and will provide positive activities and practical support, with the aim of enabling young people to make constructive use of their leisure time and raise their aspirations. This brand-new role, funded by the Big Lottery Fund, offers the opportunity to be involved in shaping the day to day running of the Youth Zone for the benefit of the young people of Barking and Dagenham and surrounding areas.

The Role

The Business Operations Manager will have responsibility for setting up and running the support function for the Youth Zone in addition to having overall management responsibility of the office and HR related matters. This is a challenging but also exciting and rewarding position at the centre of the organisation.

The Person

  • You will have excellent organisational skills with the ability to effectively manage office systems and administrative staff and volunteers
  • You will have substantial experience in office management in addition to a sound working knowledge of basic HR/personnel principles, policies and procedures, and be able to proactively advise line managers and implement HR best practice
  • You will be experienced and comfortable with producing basic monthly payroll and financial data
  • With an ability to establish a rapport and communicate effectively with internal and stakeholders, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • As an organised and IT literate person, you will be self-motivated, tenacious and able to work under pressure and to multiple deadlines.

The Role

The Volunteer Recruitment and Staff Training Manager will hold overall responsibility for the volunteer strategy and management of all volunteers. This will include recruiting, training and supporting a sizeable pool of volunteers to work alongside qualified staff across the different sections of the Youth Zone and on other projects. They will also support the Youth Work Manager to develop and deliver CPD and training for sessional youth workers and staff to enable the delivery of quality youth sessions in line with operating principles and recognised youth work values and competencies.

The Person

  • You will have substantial experience of recruiting, managing and motivating volunteers
  • You will demonstrate a positive, ‘can do’ attitude with the ability to enthuse and inspire your team.
  • You will have hands on experience of training design and delivery and be able to work well under pressure, underpinned with a relevant qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills and a knowledge and awareness of issues affecting young people are essential in order to be successful in this role.

A unique opportunity has arisen for an experienced Major Donor Fundraiser to secure and manage major donors and key partnerships with a value of circa  £1m per annum, to fund the core activities of the Youth Zone and to strengthen income generation to ensure an exciting and prosperous future for the young people of Barking and Dagenham.

The Role

The Fundraising Development Manager will have responsibility for the generation and management of income through a range of revenue funding streams with a key focus on major donors, in addition to private sector partnerships, grants and trusts, individuals, and fundraising events.

The Person

  • You will have experience of corporate and major donor fundraising, partnership work and relationship management, with a flair and passion for major donor fundraising.
  • You will have a track record of securing significant funds through a wide variety of income streams and meeting challenging financial targets.
  • With an ability to establish a rapport and communicate effectively with stakeholders, you will have excellent networking and interpersonal skills
  • As an organised and IT literate person, you will be self-motivated, tenacious and able to work under pressure and to multiple deadlines.
  • Most importantly, you will be a resilient, determined and passionate individual – with the ability to articulate the vision of the Youth Zone, generate interest from the local business community and build lasting and fruitful relationships with patrons and funders
