Mental Health and Counselling

Sometimes you need someone other than your parents, or mates to talk to…

Young people face so many challenges growing up  it is unsurprising it sometimes takes its toll mentally.

At Future, we know it is vital young people are listened to and understood.

Place2Be is the opportunity for members to speak to a trained counsellor in a comfortable, safe environment if things ever become complicated for them.

Our trained counsellor is available on Wednesdays for Juniors and Thursdays for Seniors in the Place2Be room on the ground floor, next to UrVoice.

Members can choose either:

Place2Talk: Talk to our counsellor for up to 15 minutes about anything they would like support with – either by themselves or with a friend.

One-to-One Counselling Sessions: Our counsellor works with young people on more complex issues over a longer period of time.

Under 16s must have signed consent from their parents. If you do not want your young person to be able to speak to a Place2Be counsellor, please email enquiries@futureyouthzone.org.

Mental Health First Aiders – Youth Workers: On every session we have Youth Workers who are trained Mental Health First Aiders. They are equipped with the skills they need to support any young person who is facing challenges with their mental health. They are there to listen and talk things through.

“The process has helped me realise that even though this feeling feels ‘weird’ or ‘unreal’ it’s normal to have your bad days because there are better days ahead”

FUTURE NOW: ANA'S STORY

“I joined Future because I heard there was a place to talk. I struggle with my mental health, family issues and self confidence; so when I knew I had a chance to get better I asked for help.

“I started Place2Talk and then started counselling for even further guidance and to learn to cope with emotions that ‘talk over me’.

“The people at Future are so kind and supportive. The process has helped me realise that even though this feeling feels ‘weird’ or ‘unreal’ it’s normal to have your bad days because there are better days ahead.”
