In February, our boys’ group relaunched with an incredible turnout, marking the beginning of a powerful six-week journey focused on health, growth, and positive masculinity. What followed was a series of thoughtful, engaging sessions designed to educate, empower, and enrich young men to reflect on their lives, their choices, and their futures.
The journey began with physical health. The boys opened up about how they currently keep fit, sharing personal experiences and challenges. This conversation was brought to life with a group workout in the gym, giving an opportunity to get active, build camaraderie and push personal limits. Afterwards, the group came together to reflect on the experience, exploring how discipline, consistency, and self-belief can have a lasting impact far beyond the gym floor.
From there, the sessions expanded to explore other key areas of wellbeing. Discussions around gut health helped the boys understand the connection between what they eat and how they feel, while sessions on mental health created space for honest conversations, breaking down stigma and encouraging openness. Healthy relationships were another vital focus, giving the group a chance to reflect on respect, communication, and the importance of surrounding themselves with positive influences.
Financial health was also introduced as a key life skill, equipping the boys with practical knowledge and encouraging them to think ahead about their goals and responsibilities. Each session built upon the last, creating a holistic approach to wellbeing that recognised the many different factors that contribute to a healthy, balanced life.
The programme concluded with a powerful final session centred on reflection and commitment. The boys looked back on what they had learned, the progress they had made, and most importantly the changes they wanted to carry forward. It was a moment of ownership and intention, as each young person considered the steps they could take towards a stronger, more positive future.
At a time when masculinity is so often portrayed in a negative light, and many boys grow up without strong, positive role models, spaces like this are more important than ever. This group has become more than just a weekly session, it is a safe, supportive environment where young men are encouraged to be themselves, to grow, and to redefine what it means to be strong.
A huge part of this success is down to Richy, a very talented and inspiring youth worker, whose dedication, authenticity, and passion have created a space where the boys feel seen, heard, and valued. His work is helping to shape not only better habits, but better futures.
This is what positive masculinity looks like: young men supporting one another, reflecting on their choices, and striving to become the best versions of themselves. And this is only the beginning.
