We’re kicking off the colder months with something we’re incredibly proud of at Future Youth Zone: for the fourth winter running, every young person who comes through our doors will be welcomed with a free hot meal; on every session; from 1st October through to 31st March. For us, this is so much more than just food. Rising costs, heating bills, and food prices can weigh heavily on households, and young people often feel the impact most. This is about ensuring that no young person has to go hungry while trying to enjoy themselves, learn new skills, or spend time with friends. A hot meal can make all the difference.
Last winter alone, we served over 12,000 free meals to young people. That’s 12,000 moments where hunger wasn’t a barrier to taking part. 12,000 times a young person could focus on enjoying themselves, knowing they were cared for and supported. It’s a number we’re hugely proud of, and it’s only possible thanks to the dedication of our team and the generosity of supporters who believe in giving young people the best.
Food insecurity is a real and growing issue. For some, a hot meal at Future might be the most substantial meal they get that day. We don’t think any young person should ever have to choose between eating and enjoying the opportunities they deserve. That’s why this initiative means so much to us. It’s also about dignity. No one has to ask or qualify—every young person who attends simply receives a meal, no questions asked. By making it part of every session, we remove stigma and create a culture of sharing and belonging.
At Future, we are passionate about removing barriers for young people. Free hot meals are just one way we put this into action. As we head into another winter, we’re proud of what we’ve achieved, and we’re excited to continue offering this support until spring. This winter, we’ll keep the tradition going strong, and we can’t wait to serve thousands more meals. Each one is a reminder of what Future Youth Zone stands for.
