We’re thrilled to reflect on an incredible achievement from across the OnSide Network — young people from OnSide’s Youth Advisory Board (YAB) officially took over The Big Issue in a powerful youth-led edition that hit vendors and online platforms in early July.

This special edition was entirely curated and written by young people from Onside Youth Zones across the country. It was packed with honest, thought-provoking stories that tackled big topics — from mental health and identity to immigration, disability, and prejudice. Every theme was chosen, every question asked, and every story shaped by young people. It was youth voice at its most powerful — bold, unapologetic, and deeply insightful.

We were especially proud of Lexi, who represented Future Youth Zone brilliantly. As the youngest member of the Youth Advisory Board, Lexi brought a fresh perspective, creativity, and confidence that stood out throughout the process. In her feature, Lexi asked a simple but meaningful question to young people at Future: “What’s your big issue?” The responses she gathered were varied and authentic — from everyday worries like annoying siblings and the rising price of Dr Pepper, to deeper challenges such as struggles with friendships and experiences of bullying. Her contribution perfectly captured the diversity of thought and feeling among young people. It was a snapshot of youth voice in action — raw, relatable, and full of heart. We’re so proud of Lexi for representing Future on such a high-profile, national platform.

This wasn’t just a magazine feature — it was a national platform handed over to young people, not just to speak, but to lead. At a time when youth voices are often sidelined, this edition showed what happens when they are trusted and empowered. The result? Powerful, thoughtful storytelling that reflects the real challenges and aspirations of a generation.

For OnSide, this was a milestone moment — a demonstration of the value of youth voice and the impact of great youth work. And for us here at Future, it was an opportunity to celebrate the talent, insight, and leadership of our young people.

We hope you had a chance to read the edition, share it across your networks, and help amplify the voices of young people who deserve to be heard.
