AI could either be a huge opportunity or a threat for our members, depending on how well equipped they are to make the most of it. With guidance and inspiration from OnSide’s GenAI programme, our youth workers are using AI everyday to improve our offer. Here are just a few of the ways how:
MUSIC
Using a specialist music AI app to isolate instruments and transpose keys in song, helping young people to learn their favorite songs on their chosen instrument, then rehear them playing in it. This helped an 18 year old member to learn a bass guitar sequence she was having trouble with – we then played the rest of the song with instruments from the original alongside her bass guitar, much to her delight.
GYM
Supporting young people to use AI to create workout plans for their wellbeing and fitness goals which can be used in our gym – these complement rather than replace support from trained staff and have helped less confident young people build their knowledge.
SUPPORTING NEURODIVERGENCE
In our Homework room, youth workers have used AI to rephrase study material to help young people learn and remember in different ways, from creating mind-maps and cue cards, to revision timetables adapted to subjects that need most work.
ATMOSPHERE
One of our team has even used AI to create a playlist for Senior session with songs that have a BPM of 120-145 – scientifically proven to be a BPM level that engages the brain and creating an ambience of energy. This time saver ensures the playlist can be regularly refreshed with new songs.
